Christmas Went Global

Christmas 2011

There was no dashing through the snow this year to get to this event and some 200 of you made it and it was great! The event was declared open at 6.15pm by the Mayor Kim Forward, Leader of the Council Jeremy Birch and Amber Rudd our local MP. A selection of party games followed and the young at heart and the young in years joined in with gusto and good fun.

Zahra Rose gave us a presentation of her most recent adventure. She was 1 of 4 successful applicants out of 250 who competed in a recent Fashion Contest.

Her prize allowed Zahra to display a selection of her fashion designs in Dubai. Her Tesco’s Plastic Bag dress, along with the Crisp Bag dress continue to delight and amaze bringing new meaning to recycling used clothes!

Members of the Salvation Army lead us through a selection of traditional Christmas Hymns and Carols. They displayed the words for us to join in – and we did with good voice.

A medley of old festive folk songs and carols were sung to us by the Now & Then Quartet. The sound of their harmonised singing was a great treat and captured the heart of this festive time of goodwill and sharing.

Father Christmas mingled amongst the youngsters who were all able to chose a present from Santa’s sack.

Carriages, coaches and sleighs left with happy party goers @10.00pm

Thus ended 2011 with another family event that is a tribute to the inter-group community work underway within Hastings & District and continues the establishing of goodwill through friendship, shared food and fun.
