Winter Festival of Cultures & Faiths 2013
SUNDAY 8TH DECEMBER Assembly Rooms Masonic Hall
A beautiful collaboration between the Interfaith Forum, Hastings Intercultural Organization and Hastings Borough Council enabled us all to enjoy a winter festival rooted in celebrating the ever increasing variety of cultures and faiths represented in our community.
As we all danced together in a melee of colours and creeds Council Leader Jeremy Birch commented that the visual image and our shared experience really summed up the spirit of joy and harmony in our celebration.
Our Mayor took time to be with us throughout the evening right through to the raffle draw which reward young and old for their generosity and participation.
We were delighted by such a rich variety of performances from Chinese, Indian, Iranian, African, and Nepalese cultures and a wonderful Baha'i singer songwriter, a Diwali speech and an Islamic recitation. Our wonderful young people from the Pestalozzi community contributed lots of joy as well as dance and drama and our caterers provided inspiring food from Chinese, Bangladeshi and African cuisine. On several occasions the audience could not resist just joining in the spontaneous sense of mutually shared festivity and African and Indian dances became multi-cultural. Many thanks also to Bernie from SGI and Rene from the African Community, who provided music and technical support, and to local Muslims, Baha'is, Sikhs and Quakers who shared with all through their information stalls along with the Fair Trade movement and 2nd Nature.
Many Thanks to Hastings' Foreshore Trust for their grant funding
